We don’t usually have summer concerts but this one we couldn’t resist.

An avatar of creative and progressive improvisation, Cuban-born, New York-based pianist and composer Aruán Ortiz has written music for jazz ensembles, orchestras, dance companies, chamber groups, and feature films. His work incorporates influences from contemporary classical music, Cuban-Haitian rhythms, and avant-garde improvisation, and he consistently strives to break stylistic musical boundaries. He has been called “the latest Cuban wunderkind to arrive in the United States” by BET Jazz.

Aruán will perform on August 14. He’s a brilliant pianist and we’re so lucky that he will be here. Aruán lives in New York. He will be on the West Coast for the SF Jazz Festival and is coming to San Diego to play for Fresh Sound. I‘ve heard him perform numerous times in NY and was dazzled by his talent and creativity.
